"2021 Smart City Trends and 5G Private Network Public Sector Applications Seminar" Comes to a Fruitful End
In response to the 5G development trends, the Taipei City Government has actively engaged in dialogues with the central government, industry operators, universities, and research institutes in recent years. On May 10, 2021, the "2021 Smart City Trends and 5G Private Network Public Sector Applications Seminar" was held to invite external experts and civil servants from the City Government to discuss how to construct an environment and innovative scenarios beneficial to 5G development to realize the concept of 5G smart cities and daily lives. The seminar incorporates the professional inputs from the Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute of the Institute for Information Industry, International Data Corporation, Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone Telecom, and Asia Pacific Telecom to provide trends on 5G technology and application scenarios at home and abroad to the relevant agencies tasked with the 1+7 smart fields in Taipei City. Representatives from the 5G Smart Pole Standard Promotion Alliance and TAIFO are also invited to the discussion, hoping that the high speed, low latency, and broad connectivity of 5G will optimize governance in the future. The advent of the 5G era has accelerated the development of smart cities. The City Government takes the initiative in applying three types of private network applications: Medical private network, administrative private network, and city grid and encouraging domestic telecommunication operators and other industries to participate in the Taipei Smart City Industry Field Empirical PoC Program. The medical private network uses the Taipei City Hospital as the trial test. The administrative private network uses the City Hall Building to improve the performance of municipal services. The city grids concept focuses on the convenience and safety of transportation and searches for applications serving road safety, signal information, and information management. Besides, the non-private network 5G innovation and applications are opportunities for promoting city governance. It is hoped that the participation of various agencies incorporates the 5G technology into policies, and encourages industry operators to propose viable PoC, so that more public-private collaboration projects will bring in more creativity to build a user-friendly and convenient smart city in Taipei.
