Taipei City Opens Taiwan's First Beitou Shilin Science and Technology Park Autonomous Test Base
In August last year, Two-way lane of self-driving minibus night test in Xinyi Road was completed by the Industrial Field Experiment of Taipei Smart City, further set up a dedicated closed field at Beitou Shilin Science and Technology Park to simulate the field with real road situations and provide technical tests for vehicle networking, autonomous driving, and smart infrastructure. In order to let the outsiders know about the self-driving cars and plans of the resident companies, the Taipei City government and the cooperative operators held field survey activities to publicly announce the first self-driving test field in Taiwan, aiming to build Taiwan’s self-driving environment. The Field Survey Press Conference was held on March 13th, 2018, in the self-driving field at Beitou Shilin Science and Technology Park. The conference invited a number of senior executive guests to visit and invited self-employed driving companies to share their experiences: From the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Taiwan University Director Huang Meijiao shared the research and development energy and achievements of the academic community. Another industry representative, 7Starlake, Ding Yanyun, general manager also shared the history of industrial research and development and the experience of cooperating with Taipei City. A total of three vehicles were displayed in the display section of self-driving vehicles. They were 7Starklake, a self-driving minibus service, the National Taiwan University and iAuto team that independently developed modified vehicles, and the PEV self-driving tricycle developed by MIT Media Lab and City Science Lab of Taipei University of Science and Technology. In addition, the participating VIPs also went to the demonstration field to understand the infrastructure establishments such as controllers and power facilities, and personally experienced different self-driving cars so that participants could understand energy and determination of self-driving friendly environment and R&D of Taipei. The number of guests attending the conference was very large. A total of 12 executives from the 6 Bureaus of the Taipei City Government and 21 business-academia-producing units participated in the event. A total of 33 guests attended the event.
