In order to accelerate the development of smart city and upgrade the competitiveness of IoT industry, Taipei City Government especially planned and implemented “Taipei IoT Experimental Platform” to transform the city to become an experimental field so that the innovative applications of ICT industry will be practiced. It can accelerate maturation and development of Taiwan IoT technologies and products as well as enable citizens to enjoy good outcomes from intelligent services. Ultimately, it is very useful for the development and innovation for the IoT industry.
The first stage of the platform is aiming on applications of LoRa wireless transmission technology. All developers can apply for free experiments after passing the review process. LoRa application contexts
Air Pollution Sensing: through the application of LoRa, making a mobile version of air pollution sensing. It is a combination of data correction and energy saving technologies to upgrade the existing fixed point sensing to the movable sensing. Therefore, the sensing data will be collected from all points on the streets and the data analysis can be more dimensional. And its movable characteristic provides possibility of tracking the pollution sources.
Smart Parking: because of the limitation of technologies in sensing, power, communication, and cloud computing fields, the urban traffic management unit has been unable to come up with effective solutions for the smart parking. Through the application of LoRa, combining microwave sensing, low-power solar charging circuit, and big data cloud data platform to develop a smart city parking and management system, which can detect vehicle moving information and provide information of available parking spaces.
One Click Solution: similar to the idea of Amazon’s One-click Buying, it can be applied to healthcare notification. For example, when elders need emergent care, one click can inform the hospital or emergency unit through the LoRa. At the same time, relevant health information can be obtained through the cloud data platform to support immediate first aid at the scene.
