Twenty representatives of Osaka Prefectural Assembly (Oosaka nikka shinzenkyoukai) came to visit Taipei. Department of Information Technology was attended by the representative of Director Chen, Hui-Min and arranged for the TPMO to introduce the Smart Taipei mechanism and results and the international organization initiated by Taipei City - Global Smart City Alliance (GO SMART). Liu, Han-Yu, deputy general manager of Hao-Yang Environmental Science and Technology Ltd., to introduce the iTrash smart garbage collection service system.
In recent years, people's direct participation in national governance has gradually been valued. The Department of Information Technology has promoted smart cities to incorporate some public policies into the mechanism of citizen participation to improve services that are more in line with the needs of the people. In order to encourage university teachers and students to put forward specific research results and suggestions related to smart city development based on international urban development trends and Taipei City's policy direction, and to promote citizen participation, TPMO plans to cooperate through university course proposal grants to integrate the elements of smart city and citizen participation into the course design, course progress and presentation of course results, hoping to echo the city's concept of introducing innovation to the public sector, introduce the energy of study and research into the development process of introducing the city's smart city, and assist all departments to promote smart city-related business through the cooperation between government and academia to realize the spirit of "open government and citizen participation".
This course explores and studies sustainable transportation, including sustainable transportation development policies, public transportation-oriented development, public transportation, shared transportation equipment, demand management and the application of smart transportation development. TPMO staff will share the content of the project on October 21st to explain the current status and development of smart transportation in Taipei City, provide students of the course research directions and topics, and in-depth discussion of Taipei City's sharing of green energy vehicles or other ways to improve transportation to produce follow-up results and feasibility suggestions. The students discussed the relevant exchanges of TPMO personnel and divided them into five groups of proposals, including "shared electric motorcycle", "shared electric scooter", "shared bicycle", "shared parking space" and "shared car".
Under the trend of cross-disciplinary teaching, this course focuses on the gamification of the topics of food agriculture education and disaster prevention education in the middle school, and discusses the relationship between games and learning in the form of topic discussions, field observations, and workshops. TPMO staff assisted the relevant personnel of the Matchmaking Education Bureau in interviewing the course students, and assisted the students to design the reality game through the professional co-study workshop, and converged into a text introduction to present the results of the reality game design. The course continues to cooperate with Wesley Girls High School "Waishuangxi Learning" to discuss the relationship between games and learning through discussion of topics, participatory observations, co-learning workshops, etc. The student canteen, the campus vegetable garden, and with the help of Clubon, through the implementation and design, improve the canning of the course materials of the existing related topics, and combine the related field records and issues to design a game suitable for integration into teaching.
This course conducts statistical analysis or data exploration based on the existing statistical data, open data, and data collected by students in Taipei City. TPMO staff went to the course to exchange opinions and data analysis with teachers and students in the physical classroom. The topics focused on social care and derivation themes related to urban life and management, and based on the results of analysis, make possible future suggestions. After the course exchanges, the students collected relevant data and information based on the hottest topics discussed in Taipei ’s online information, and observed the changes and data structures of various data through various analysis methods, and put forward related improvement suggestions.
In order to promote citizen teachers and students to take part in policies and development of smart cities in Taipei, TPMO expanded the cooperation with two universities and four courses, put forward specific research results and suggestions for smart city development, and promoted the degree of citizen participation and society innovation and the ability to enhance the practical operation of teachers and students, integrate the elements of smart city and citizen participation into the course design, course progress and course results presentation. TPMO has assisted the students of the partner schools to produce preliminary results, and held a final exhibition of the results of the civic participation course cooperation in the Teachers and Students Gallery on the first floor of the Municipal Building from 12/17 to 12/20. The exhibition contains 31 groups of students and is aimed at smart cities fields such as smart transportation, smart medical care, cashless payment, social housing, food farming education, resilient disaster prevention, smart campus, AI application, etc. are used for case sharing, classroom exchange of opinions, interviews with the matchmaking office, etc. It not only shown the process and achievements of the cooperation work, but also let the various offices can see more unique perspectives and orientations. It can be used as a reference for future policy strategies and realize the spirit of “open government and participation by all.” Approximately 500 people visited the exhibition during the exhibition, and a total of 356 online questionnaires were collected. TPMO will also expand the follow-up related processing for feedback and improvement.
The content of the Taipei Pavilion's exhibition every year is well known, and it is accompanied by rich game activities to lead the people to understand Smart Taipei in a simple and easy way. This event not only introduced Taipei Smart City mechanism and project by TPMO, but also invited partners Edimax Technology and Juan Long Life to show up and share the results of the project cooperation with Taipei City Government, and bring the latest technology applications in the industry, hoping the lessons were very rewarding for citizens. After listening to the introduction of the office and partners, the public responded very enthusiastically. They put forward various opinions on services such as smart public housing, smart transportation, and smart campus security. I hope that the smart services introduced this time can be implemented as soon as possible to allow more citizens enjoy convenient services. TPMO collected by this event the expectations and imagination of citizens for the future development of Taipei, and summarized these valuable opinions and provide them to the relevant government agencies for reference. It is also an important basis for TPMO to adjust its future direction and realize the true meaning of citizen participation.
The park tour includes 6 departments including Department of Information Technology, Fire Department, Feitusi Reservoir Administration, Department of social welfare, Department of Education and Police Department; plus Biomimicry Taiwan, WeMo Scooter, PiXORD Corporation, Transtech, TURING, Thirteen third-party vendors, including Great Lite International, Hao-Yang Environment Technology, Brilliant Systems, ThinkTank, FOX-TECH, BXB Electronic, Edimax Technology, and Hebron, cooperated together. Taipei City Government is invited to participate in Asia Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) 2019. This event is a major conference held every two years in the Asia-Pacific region. It is held in rotation by cities including in Australia and has been held so far 11 times. It aims to enhance the economic development of the Asia-Pacific region and other important cities and expand business alliances between cities. Through international platform of APCS, it explores the cooperative relationships between cities and enterprises around the world, driving urban economic development and new opportunities for commerce and trade to strengthen cooperation alliance network of cities in Asia-Pacific region.
In order to promote and link academic and research strengths to help promote smart cities and implement the spirit of civic participation, Taipei Smart City Project Management Office travels to campuses to introduce the current status and achievements of Taipei's promotion of smart cities, and interacts and communicates deeply with teachers and students during the course. For example, students from Kaohsiung National Sun Yat-Sen University visited Taipei for an internship, and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each project when they contacted smart city related topics brainstormed and stimulated more ideas and possibilities which are both valuable exchanged feedbacks. Guests from other countries came to learn from the experience, such as the visiting office of the University of Potsdam of Germany, Cheng, Hsin-yi, a special committee member of Department of Technology, came to the scene to explain the operation mechanism of the smart city to learn from the experiences of each other and come up with more possible solutions, successfully connecting foreign academic and research forces to lay a stronger foundation for the promotion of smart cities.
Taipei Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) has become an international landmark exhibition. The sixth edition of this year will be held in Nangang Exhibition Hall 1 for 4 days starting from March 26. The theme of this year's exhibition is "Smart Internet of Things Leads Smart City Re-Upgrading". Taipei Smart City Project Management Office (TPMO) and the Department of Public Administration of Chengchi University have collaborated to study and analyze and discuss one of the city's ongoing smart city proof-of-concepts (PoC), the smart streetlight project which Let TPMO and the city government eyes shine.

The Vice Mayor of the Taipei Municipal Government, LIN,CHIN-JUNG, attended the press conference of second anniversary of WeMo Scooter's operation today (24th). He and the Umotor partner, the CEO of WeMo Scooter, WU, HSIN-PEI, rode on electric motors to debut, in addition to celebrating the 2nd anniversary of the outstanding operation, they also announced they will sign a memorandum of cooperation to provide exclusive electric motor rental discounts for city employees, who will become leaders of green transportation that invite the citizens to "ride" to respond to create a green environment of convenient transportation.
Department of Information Technology of Taipei City Government has promoted the Smart City Project and established the Taipei Smart City Project Office for nearly three years. Especially, this time industrial exchange and discuss meeting was hosted by Director of the department, LI, WEI-PIN. The 5th PIXNET HACKATHON Competition was held at the National Taiwan University Sports Center on 8/18 and 8/19. Department of Information Technology and the Taipei Smart City Project Management Office for the first time jointly held the 5th PIXNET HACKATHON competition with the point of "creating a smart life circle," focusing on the IoT voice situation application and artificial intelligence image recognition technology, and cooperates with Department of Transportation of Taipei City and New Taipei City to share and provide information such as bus routes and traffic flow, historical data on traffic and speed. Besides, Askey , the company cooperates with Taipei City Government to promote “Smart Taipei Station” in order to encourage the participating teams to stimulate more feasible solutions for the convenience of the App, also participate in the current hackathon activities, provides SDK╱ API technical support.
On February 7, 2018, during the winter vacation, the Taipei New Children’s Amusement Park held a “Smart Parenting Tournament” event target at the parent-child community in hope of spreading the concept and experience of Taipei Smart City to the “family” as a unit to extensive publicity.
In order to let the outsiders know about the self-driving cars and plans of the resident companies, the Taipei City government and the cooperative operators held field survey activities to publicly announce the first self-driving test field in Taiwan, aiming to build Taiwan’s self-driving environment.
Taipei Smart City Project Management Office and Department of Information Technology exhibited innovative applications with the Department of Economic Development at the "Smart Innovation Pavilion" at the Taipei Vision Pavilion at the 2018 Smart City Exhibition including “Beitou Shilin Science and Technology Park Self-driving empirical field”, “AI artificial intelligence application”, “Air Pollution Traceability Monitoring Platform”, “Internet of Things Experiment Platform” and “Taipei English Learning City” ,etc.
In order to make Smart City and Internet of Things applied to Taipei city and make it become a Living Lab of Smart City, Taipei City Government held the press conference of “Taipei Smart City Industrial Field Pilot Project”on the morning of May 24th to declare that this is the first pilot project and hope through proposal,media, and field evidence to integrate produciton, research and other resorce, improve policy-building and related service and build a urban culture of dare-to-innovation. Taipei City Government promotes “sharing, green energy, and e-city” as the core of governance planning and actively introduced the recent “3U” plan, which combines YouBike, U-Motor, and U-Car services, to provide citizens more convenient transportation solution. Taipei Smart City PMO successfully match-made Taipei City Government and a domestic startup, “WeMo Scooter,” to work together and promote a U-Motor rental service. A press conference was hosted on December 7th at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, Building A8, North Gate, with a test ride activity. The Vice-mayor, Lin, Qin-Rong, joined the activity and enthusiastically tried out the app operation for riding the U-Motor, adding many interactions with participants.
PMO will host “Building Smart City with IoT Seminar, Nangang City as an Example”on August 15th, 2016 in Taipei Computer Association. PMO interviewed citizens and collected questionnaires to study local needs in Nangang district and proposed smart city solutions aiming on “security”, “national care for elderly and disabled persons”, and “ecological protection” needs.
PMO hosted “Nangang District Smart City Promotion Citizen Symposium” on July 23rd, 2016 in Nangang Sanchong Community Activity Center, and invited residents of Nangang district to understand subjects about smart city. PMO researchers introduced the concept of smart city and shared domestic and foreign smart city cases.
“Taipei Smart City PMO” hosted a press conference to announce a work collection activity for LoRa, an IoT experimental platform on 5/16. This is a plan that encourages startups and innovation teams to participate and submit applications. Through the experimental activity, the government wishes to invite more private energy to invest in the development of LoRa applications.
In order to accelerate the development of smart city and upgrade the competitiveness of IoT industry, Taipei City Government especially planned and implemented “Taipei IoT Experimental Platform” to transform the city to become an experimental field so that the innovative applications of ICT industry will be practiced. It can accelerate maturation and development of Taiwan IoT technologies and products as well as enable citizens to enjoy good outcomes from intelligent services. Ultimately, it is very useful for the development and innovation for the IoT industry.
