Smart street lights, an important cornerstone for building a smart city
Integrating the development of network technologies and innovative technologies, street lighting is no longer only a function of lighting, but also an important carrier for networking and data collection. Using the characteristics of high-density street lighting to integrate environmental sensing, mobile networks, tracking of GPS, traffic flow data and cloud Computing technology to transformed ordinary street lamps into smart ones, becoming cornerstone of smart cities for building urban infrastructure networks and big data analysis platforms.
Department of Information Technology and Public Works of Taipei City Government and Taipei Smart City PMO jointly coordinated relevant units to complete the "Neihu Smart Street Light Pilot Project", which was jointly implemented by Chunghwa System Integration, IPSecures Corporation and Light Space inc. in Neihu. Smart Street Lighting is provided on Gangqian Road and Zhouzi Street to provide smart lighting, safety warnings, traffic/passage counting, parking space detection, environmental sensing, message pushing by electronics billboards and other related functions through the configuration of various types of equipment and transmission sensors. Gangqian Road, with smart street lights to renovate the street atmosphere and provide smart transportation related applications, on the other hand Zhouzi Street take a smart park as the main shaft to display all kinds of application services.
This pilot project was also shortlisted for the "World Smart City Awards" at the Barcelona Smart City Expo World Congress 2017. Taipei City was also invited to share the achievements of promoting smart cities in Taipei and was interviewed by well-known European media. As a smart city, Taipei have attracted international attention.
Streetlights can be used as a backbone network for connecting IoT applications and big data collection. Through the pilot project, it provides a reference for future urban governance. This pilot project will collect traffic data periods to improve the overall planning of Neihu transportation.
