Taipei City sets up sidewalk trash bins to bring convenience to the public’s life and keep the road clean. However, the management of sidewalk trash bins requires multiple patrols by the cleaning team to check the need for waste cleaning and removal, which adds a burden on manpower. In special circumstances when the cleaning and removal are delayed; the overflowing trash could affect the neatness of the environment as well as the city's look.  

For this reason, the Dept. of Environmental Protection,Taipei City Government collaborates with UnaBiz on this PoC project to run the smart management solution for the trash bins on sidewalks. The usage condition of the trash bin is detected by the sensors and analyzed to predict the peak hours as well as the hotspot site for the trash bin in high usage. It is expected that this trial of optimizing the existing cleaning and removal by the cleaning team will provide convenience for the public in discarding waste, maintaining the environment clean, and implementing net-zero carbon emissions.
