Continuous Innovation! "2022 Smart Taipei Innovation Awards" Winners Announced!

Since 2020, the Taipei City Government's Information Bureau has been organizing the annual "Smart Taipei Innovation Awards" to encourage private enterprises' active participation in Taipei's innovation services and industrial development. The awards aim to select outstanding PoC projects that demonstrate innovation. For the "2022 Smart Taipei Innovation Awards," 22 excellent projects were nominated and recommended by various bureaus within the city government. After rigorous evaluation by internal and external judges based on the projects' innovation, completeness of planning, trial effectiveness, future feasibility, and data integrity, three projects were selected as the best, with seven others receiving commendations. Congratulations to the project teams for achieving this prestigious recognition this year!

The three projects selected as the best for this year include:

The collaboration between Cansat Technology Co., Ltd. and Taipei City Police Department resulted in a smart accident scene positioning software. The project integrated hardware and software to accurately locate accidents and document them with photographs and videos, which received high praise for its efficiency.

Taipei City Traffic Department and Gogoro New Power Co., Ltd. collaborated to provide uninterrupted power supply for traffic signals using electric motorcycle battery modules. This solution ensures that the traffic signal system continues to function during temporary power outages, aligning with ESG concepts, and was recognized for its excellence.

Taiwan Se-Sir Engineering Consultants, Inc. built an application and engineering operation system using a hydraulic model of the water distribution network. The system provides the Taipei Water Department with a network model and real-time updated maps, enabling digital twin applications through intelligent algorithms for test planning. This reduces the risk of water supply disruption in the city and offers customized solutions based on geographical conditions, garnering favor from the judges.

The awarded projects cover a wide range of fields within the smart city domain, including smart governance, smart transportation, smart security, and smart buildings. The validation processes and experiences of all these outstanding projects serve as essential driving forces for Taipei's smart city development. The winning projects will be showcased at the "2023 Smart City Exhibition Taipei Vision Pavilion," and the awards ceremony is scheduled for May. Additionally, a one-year online virtual exhibition will be held, inviting the public to learn about these excellent smart city solutions and the benefits they can bring to people's lives.

Mayor Jang Wan-an stated that the Taipei City Government has embraced innovation and the spirit of fearlessness in facing failure for many years. By opening public spaces to allow private enterprises to conduct Proof of Concept (PoC) trials of smart technology applications and services, Taipei has become the largest and most friendly experimental field for startups. The "Smart Taipei Innovation Awards" not only bridge the gap between the public sector and private startups, fostering cooperation, but also serve as a stage to showcase outstanding achievements. In the future, Taipei City will actively implement technology inclusiveness and the limitless Taipei vision, promoting openness, empowerment, and shared benefits for all.
