Work Collection for the Taipei IoT Experimental Platform, LoRa, the Press Conference

“Taipei Smart City Project Management Office (TPMO)” hosted a press conference to announce a work collection activity for LoRa, an IoT experimental platform on 5/16. This is a plan that encourages startups and innovation teams to participate and submit applications. Through the experimental activity, the government wishes to invite more private energy to invest in the development of LoRa applications.

Taipei City Government established the Taipei Smart City PMO in 2016. Its mission is to encourage the public participation and form a public-private partnership and wish to efficiently solve the citizens’ problems by adopting innovative technologies and data/information. Furthermore, building an innovation matchmaking platform to combine industry and government resources to develop smart solutions that satisfy public demands.

The work collection of LoRa is carried out by the “Taipei Smart City Project Management Office ”  Last year, Department of Information Technology Office, Taipei City Government has accomplished Taipei IoT Experimental Platform with establishing 12 LoRa wireless communication base stations in Taipei City. Because of LoRa’s long-distance and low power consumption of WAN technology, the communication range can cover the entire Taipei City. Taipei City Government now open up the platform for startups and development teams to utilize for creating new applications. The platform is opened for applications when startups and development teams need IoRa resources and it’s free of charge. The first round of work collection started on 4/19 and is now overwhelming responded.

The press conference invited Taipei City Mayer Ko Wen-je, the Commissioner of Department of Information Technology, Lee Wei-bin, and many VIP guests. Also, representatives of teams are invited to introduce their innovations of LoRa applications, such as Emergency Button, and Air Box. We wish to transform the city to be a living lab and test creativities so that Taipei will eventually become a pioneer in LoRa development.
