According to the development of digital technology and the change in citizens’ lifestyles, Taipei city government released Metaverse Taipei in August 2022. Metaverse Taipei reveals that Taipei city government will use “Municipal Administration” and “Cultural Tourism” to deploy construction in the next 5 years. On the 22nd of November, Taipei city government held an employee training conference called "The lesson of smart city development: the developing roadmap of city metaverse". Taipei city government invited the industry and research corporations to introduce the points of Metaverse Taipei, including the concepts, trends, and new claims and international cases of Metaverse Taipei to government employees.
Hsin-Ke LU, the commissioner of the Department of Information Technology, Taipei City Government, shared that the innovative technology of Metaverse still needs to be improved by the industry. The public sector could make plans with new technology initiatives, and invite industry representatives and public servants to find out the public business of Taipei city and the services that match the needs of citizens through public-private partnership. Also, it could be the key point of smart city “problem setting by the government, problem solving by the industry (Top-down)” in 2023.
At the conference, there were three major topics, “establish the government for the metaverse”, “developing the roadmap of the metaverse city” and “composite conference: how to make citizens know what the government did: digital twins of the government metaverse”. Those three topics are discussed in deploying municipal administration, education, transportation, tourism, public construction, and so on. At the conference, Hsin-Ke LU, the commissioner of the Department of Information Technology, Taipei City Government, started with the opening speech. After the opening speech, professionals from think tanks and people from different industries discussed and shared their experiences. At the end of the conference,the deputy director of Taipei Smart City Project Management Office (TPMO) Nicolas Chang was the host, he invited Hsin-Ke LU, the department of interaction design of Taipei Tech Hsiao-Yue Tsao , and the president of Taiwan association for virtual and augmented reality Andy Peng , and the Co-founder & CEO Speed 3D Inc Marvin Chiu , and the chairman of OMNIGUIDER INC. Shu-Kuo Sun , and the COO of Arplanet Coco Yang to communicate together and talk about the plan of the public sector of smart city.
60 people attended the conference, including the host, lecturers, public servants from Taipei city government, and representatives from related industries. To promote the citizens’ understanding of Taipei smart city’s future and development, we welcome everyone from the industry-university-institute to use “Smart Municipal Administration” and “Data Governance” in both ways to realize the new digital municipal services in an immersive, interactive, and online merge offline way.
